Delcevo Water Supply Project (DWSP)
Delcevo is a small city in the Northeast of North Macedonia. The population of Delcevo with nearly 12'000 inhabitants stayed stagnant during the last 20 years. The population of the surrounding villages decreased slightly leading to a total population of 14'500 inhabitants in the service area of the water utility «PUC Bregalnica». With an additional water use of small industries, the connection of two villages Dzvegor and Gabrovo, the future water consumption is assumed to come up with 16'500 population equivalents. Today an existing water supply system supplies the population with potable water. The water resources are lake water from the artificial Loshana dam completed in 2006 with a maximum reservoir capacity of about 1.1 m. cubic meters. A few groundwater wells serve as additional drinking water resource. The water from the dam is treated in a production plant with a maximum capacity of 60 l/s and consists of a flocculation step, two deep bed pressure sand filters, one granular activated carbon pressure filter and a final disinfection step with chlorine dioxide. Currently, the treatment plant is operated with 30 l/s only.
