North Tajik Water Meters NTWRP2-1.4

Based on the excellent outcomes in previous joint projects, EBRD asked the Swiss Government to participate in the new project North Tajik Water II Rehabilitation Project. This project aims at improving the water supply systems in the cities of Shakhristan, Zafarobod, Panjakent and Istaravshan.
In Tajikistan, a high percentage of the population (especially in rural regions) still do not have access to safe drinking water, resulting in severe health consequences - particularly for the poorest people. Installation of domestic water meters helps foster the efficient, transparent and accountable management and delivery of public services at local levels and leads to public sensitization on drinking water and sanitation issues. The vision is: access to affordable, reliable and sustainable drinking water supply and sanitation to improve living conditions of the population.
